Christian Wallowing Bull Returns

May 24 | Christian Wallowing Bull Returns to the Virginian Saloon for Screening of Lone Wolf Short Film, Followed by Live Concert 6:30 p.m.

In collaboration with the Virginian Saloon and Filmmaker Dave Herring, St. John's Episcopal Church is thrilled to welcome indigenous singer-songwriter Christian Wallowing Bull back to Jackson for a special screening of Lone Wolf, a short film based on Christian's life and music, recently nominated for the Wyoming Film Festival, on Friday, May 24, 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., the Saloon at the Virginian. The screening will be followed by a conversation with Christian alongside Director Dave Herring, and closed out with a set of Christian's music.

Winner of the 2021 Wyoming Singer-Songwriter’s competition, Wallowing Bull resides just outside the Wind River Reservation. With familial relations to the Wind River, as an enrolled member of the Northern Arapaho Tribe, his heart as a storyteller is to represent his own indigenous roots, and to bridge perspective and healing to the lives of those indigenous, as well as non-indigenous. Ever since his first album release, "Warrior" in (2020), he has been leaving his growing audience and following in complete awe. With a voice like thunder, he carries an ancestral power in all of his live shows.

Lone Wolf director Dave Herring remarks, "When I came across Christian’s music, I knew there was something incredibly special about it. I knew there was a painful yet triumphant story by the tone and timbre of his voice alone. As I began learning about him, the depth of that story was a bottomless well, and the hope a limitless elevation. Coming to his homeland to have him recount thirty years of life as an indigenous man and artist was one of the greatest honors of my life. His story will unveil what poverty, abandonment, and addiction can look like, and just how much hope there is for everyone who will pursue it."

Mark MacInnis, Head of Culture + Experience at The Virginian Lodge & Saloon, adds, "We're honored to host Christian Wallowing Bull and the documentary film, Lone Wolf, at The Virginian Lodge. Join us for an unforgettable experience celebrating culture and creativity."

Wallowing Bull's solo performances incorporate evocative acoustic guitar with the driving pulse of a kick drum to accompany his deep-voiced lyrics – creating an atmosphere of deep feeling and incantatory resonance.

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. The event (film screening, Q&A with Director and Artist, followed by a set of Christian's music) will be held 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

This event is free and open to the public; suggested donation of $10 to support Christian and his music will be collected at the door.
