Meet John Goettler

My name is John Goettler and I'm Chair of the Advance Gifts Phase of the Legacy of Love Capital Campaign.

My wife and I moved our family to Jackson ten years ago, and we have been members of St. John's since we arrived. I was on the Endowment Committee for six years and during this time I was aware of the internal conversations about a new Browse ‘n Buy. I was honored and humbled when Jimmy asked me to serve as a volunteer and join the Campaign Steering Committee. I have worked professionally as a fundraising consultant or a nonprofit foundation executive for the last 36 years. The committee has been meeting for the last year, and we have worked well together as a team. As part of the work of the Steering Committee, we have spent time getting to know the case for supporting the campaign. With three kids, Valerie and I were well acquainted with Browse ‘n Buy. I was somewhat aware of the important work being done by the Jackson Cupboard, and I have learned much about the amazing work of the Recovery Community. Both will have homes in our new facility. We are supporting the community by providing housing for members of our clergy and professional staff. The case for supporting this campaign is strong and inspiring.

I have contacted several church members and I have asked to meet with them to share the information about the campaign. The home visits have been a joyful experience, and I have gotten to know many church members more deeply through these meetings. Some of these meetings have been the most rewarding and inspiring of my life. The committee has met with 127 families and individuals. We hope to meet with all 355 remaining members of our church family to schedule a home visit. The visits are the most important and enjoyable part of this campaign. We will outline the case for support, share our progress (over $11.4 million pledged to date), and invite you to consider a three-year pledge in support of the project. Prayers and joyful giving are welcome. I'm able to share with you my view that the state of the Legacy of Love campaign is strong, and we look forward to meeting with you soon.

The mission of our Legacy of Love campaign is to provide a bigger home for several outreach ministries and to make a love-spreading difference. With your help, we are going to make a beautiful impact on our church, our friends and neighbors, and our community.
