Laundry Love
Established 2003 in Ventura California, Laundry Love washes the clothes and bedding of low/no income families and person(s) across the U.S. Partnering with diverse groups and laundromats nationwide, we brighten the lives of thousands of people each month through love, dignity, and detergent. The story of Laundry Love began with T-Bone (Eric), a houseless gentleman living in Ventura Calif. In one particular conversation, a question was asked of him:
“How can we come alongside your life in a meaningful way?” His response was honest and practical. “If I had clean clothes I think people would treat me like a human being.”
The Laundry Love initiative consists of regular opportunities to come alongside people who are struggling financially by assisting them with their laundry. We see the laundromat as a place where strangers become friends, people are known by name, hope is hustled, and the worth of every human being is acknowledged and celebrated.
From 2018-2022, St. John’s Church in partnership with the Jackson Laundromat provided once-monthly laundry services to our community.
In 2021, we launched a new Laundry Love in Victor, Idaho at the General Laundry Co. It runs monthly on the fourth Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Families say they’re saving $80 - $100 a month for their households. One of the greatest joys in this mission is meeting an individual coming in from a long day of work, after commuting over the pass, bone-tired, arms full of laundry, and watching their faces light up as we tell them the laundry is free tonight.
